Organisation profile

Since its re-establishment in 2002, the medical school has developed an environment locally, nationally and internationally that enables world-leading clinical research with a focus on Early Diagnosis. In the first half of 2017 the SoM established Four Research Divisions to replace the single administrative structure of the School of Medicine. These Divisions work in areas of research strength in the School and the wider University.

Increased collaboration amongst three of our divisions and Schools with cognate interests, most of which reside within a central campus at the North Haugh of St Andrews, has led to the formation of six interdisciplinary research entities in strategic areas as shown in the figure below. The appendix list current grants where SoM is in collaboration with at least one other school. The Division of Education undertakes pedagogical research which is an emergent area of research strength across several schools in St Andrews within two groupings: St Andrews Learning and Teaching Initiative (SALTI) and the Centre for Higher Education Research (CHER).
