I started working at St Andrews in September 2018. Previously I was a research fellow in East Asia at the University of Warwick from 2012-18. I completed my PhD at the University of Reading within the Leverhulme Major research Project the Liberal Way of War.
My current research explores three themes:
1) the nexus between security and development in East Asia (with a particular interest in Southeast Asia)
2) The role of East Asian states within international institutions (for example China's actions in the UN)
3) The security challenges presented by North Korea.
In investigating all of these areas I use simulations and wargames as tools for both applying and generating informal and for testing the policy responses derived from ongoing research.
My research has been funded by the Korea Foundation, the British Academy and the Leverhulme trust.
