Research overview

My general research interests are in understanding the ecological significance and evolutionary function of animal behaviour, with a particular emphasis on how animals use and exchange different types of information available in their environment. My work is mostly empirical and focuses primarily on acoustic communication in a variety of avian species. The general goal is to understand how animals learn to produce and use flexible and complex communication systems to avoid predators, attract mates, find food, cooperate with partners, and mediate territorial disputes.
