Elena Spinelli


Research overview

Elena (she/her) received her BA summa cum laude in Foreign Languages and Literature from the Università degli Studi di Milano in 2015, and her MLitt in Shakespeare and Renaissance Literary Culture from the University of St Andrews in 2017. Her doctoral thesis, provisionally titled "Women's Dialogue in English Neoclassical Drama: 1550-1610", examines how the depiction of women in early modern English tragedies adapted from classical drama is affected by gender-specific dialogic exchanges. Elena's research project is supervised by Professor Neil Rhodes and Dr Harriet Archer, and is funded by a Professor A F Falconer Scholarship. Elena's wider research interests include the reception of classical and Italian literature in the English Renaissance, as well as Renaissance women’s writing and portrayal in dramatic works.
