Emma Buckley

Research overview

I specialise in post-Virgilian epic, especially focussing on the Argonautica of Valerius Flaccus, the first epic of the Flavian era.  My interests lie in applying theories of intertextuality and reception to a range of post-Virgilian authors including Ovid, Lucan and Seneca;  I also work on the pseudo-Senecan Octavia, the neo-Latin epyllia of the Florentine humanist Maffeo Vegio, and the neo-Latin university plays of the Tudor and Jacobean age.
