Research overview

I am currently studying as a PhD Candidate at the Handa Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence (CSTPV) through the School of International Relations at the University of St Andrews.

My research project is focused on evaluating CONTEST, the UK's counter-terrorism strategy. I am carrying out this analysis through a mixed methods research design, specifically a sequential exploratory design. The first phase of my research will be qualitative and will involve selective document review (coding through NVivo software), interviews and content analysis. Following this, I will move to the quantitative phase where I hope to develop a composite index and assess its effectiveness in evaluating counter-terrorism activities. The research is developed in this way in an effort to address the lacuna in the area of empirical counter-terrorism policy evaluation.
