Research overview

John Perry explores how the emergence of new forms of theological ethics in the early modern period continues to influence us today—both in the church and wider society. This includes topics such as political theology, Scripture and ethics, the role of religion in politics, and the relationship between philosophical and theological ethics. He also studies two topics prominent in contemporary society: sexual ethics, such as debates about same-sex marriage, and medical ethics, such as euthanasia and palliative care of those with dementia. As these debates are often hostile, his goal is to help them go well: to ensure that when Christians contribute to these debates they display both charity and theological integrity.
