Research overview

In my research, I am broadly interested in questions of identity politics, authoritarianism, and political legitimacy. In my doctoral thesis, I explore the relationship between nation-branding and elite legitimation in the context of two states: Kazakhstan and Qatar. For this project, I have carried out extensive fieldwork in both Central Asia and the Gulf in 2015 and 2016.

Before starting the PhD, I received a BA in Liberal Arts and Sciences from the University College Maastricht, a MLitt in Middle East and Central Asian Security Studies from the University of St Andrews, and have worked in Doha and Brussels.
