Research overview

I am Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychology & Neuroscience and Pro-Dean of Postgraduate Taught Programmes (PGT) for the University of St Andrews.

My interests are in teaching, research and activities related to my role as Pro-Dean.

At undergraduate level, I teach students at 2nd, 3rd and 4th year level. This includes supervision of final year students working in local primary schools as part of a module on Communication and Teaching in Science.  I supervise a number of final year research projects and I was the winner of the Universtiy of St Andrews Students Association Teaching Award for 2016.

At postgraduate level, I am responsible for the accredited open learning post graduate programmes (PG Certificate, PG Diploma and MSc.) which are delivered to staff working with people with intellectual disabilities.  I also supervise a number of PhD students.

My main research interests are in people with intellectual disabilities, specifically staff training in the areas of challenging behaviour and adult protection.

My Pro-Dean work includes programme approval across the all Faculties, consultation with PGT Directors of Teaching, and facilitating new Masters programmes university wide.

My external work includes work with  NHS and membership of a number of Scottish Government action groups.
