Research overview

Neil specialises in modern and contemporary art related to gender and sexuality. Specifically, his work looks at the art and visual culture of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. His PhD looked at the penetrated body as practice and metaphor in relation to HIV/AIDS; it took an interdisciplinary approach, encompassing film and performance. While working on publications stemming from his PhD research Neil is also developing another project on time in Art History, HIV/AIDS art and medicine. He is also interested in questions of theory and methodology, biopolitics and the history of medicine.
