Research overview

The management and conservation of marine organisms has become increasingly complex in the face of rapidly changing climate conditions and ever more ubiquitous human impacts on natural systems. A key challenge is understanding the spatial and temporal extent of the response of biological systems to both climatically and anthropogenically induced environmental change.

In order to accomplish this, accessible, comparable and meaningful indices are needed. My research utilizes biological indices of aquatic predators with habitats ranging from pelagic marine to coastal and/or freshwater zones, to monitor these changes. Such animals can integrate variability over large spatial and/or temporal scales and offer an accessible source of information regarding the health of marine ecosystems.
