Research overview

My main research interests are in Older Scots literature, northern Middle English literature, medieval romance and secular narrative cycles, and textual editing. I have produced a scholarly edition of 4 late medieval Scottish romances for the Scottish Text Society (Shorter Scottish Medieval Romances, forthcoming May 2013) and will be editing Eger and Grime for them next. I have co-edited several collections of essays, most recently Medieval Romance, Medieval Contexts with Michael Cichon, which arose from the  'Romance in Medieval Britain' conference that I organised here in 2008 (Cambridge: D S Brewer, 2011) and have articles/chapters published or in preparation on Sir David Lyndsay, Barbour's Bruce, The Kingis Quair and various Scots and Middle English romances. I am currently developing a project on the 19c medievalist scholar David Laing in conjunction with staff at the University of Edinburgh.
