Research overview

I have joined the University of St Andrews in September 2018 as a part-time Research Fellow in the School of History, within the ERC project “Roma Civic Emancipation between the two World Wars”, led by Professor Elena Marushiakova as Principal Investigator.

Before joining the University of St Andrews I have held the post of Postdoctoral Researcher at the Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute of Foreign Languages, the University of Iceland (since 2016) and Assistant Professor at the Balkan Ethnology Department, Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (2012-2016), where my research has developed in two main fields - Romani Studies and South-East European Studies.

I have  publised on these fields in peer reviewed collections and journals, and authored the monographs Yugoslavia after Montenegro: Dynamics of Identities (2013, in Bulgarian) – an up-to-date study reflecting the contemporary nation-building and ethnic processes in Montenegro, History of Romani Literature with Multimedia on Romani Kids´ Publications (2014, in English) that is the most recent overview of Romani publications in historical context, and the study Research on the Social Norms that Prevent Roma Girls from Access to Education (2016, in Bulgarian and English).

I have edited the volume Ethnography of Migrations. The Bulgarians in the Mediterranean (2013) and am member of Romani Studies journal´s Editorial Board.
