Vahid Davar Ghalati

Research overview

Inspired by the striking biographical and symbolic similarities between Jamshid, the first mythical king (Vendidad) of Iran, and Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (r. 1941-79), the last actual monarch of the country, Vahid explores the trans-historical impacts of the myth of Jamshid on Iranian mind and analyse the interpretations of Mohammad Reza Shah’s life as a modern myth. His theoretical framework in his exegeses of Persian historiographies and mythologies consists of theories that highlight the archetypal qualities of historical reconstruction, narration and interpretation.
