Derek John Patrick (Recipient)

HIS YEAR: The Dundee University historian has carried out extensive research into the Battle of Loos, which started on September 25 1915, and in particular the sacrifices made by the 4th Battalion Black Watch, "Dundee's Own". Together with Dr Billy Kenefick, he also founded the Great War Dundee Commemorative Project - and for their roles in this they were both awarded the Public Engagement Award for 2013-14 by the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS).
PANEL VIEW: Dr Patrick's in depth knowledge about the Battle of Loos, and the First World War as a whole, marks him as one of Courier Country's best historians. He also has an ability to bring the past alive to people of all ages, ensuring the younger generation are aware of the sacrifices made in the Great War by their forebears.
