Abstract

Summary as published in article: The fall of the Berlin Wall was as much about beginnings as it was endings. Out of the rubble came a new hope: techno music.

Brief description: This mid-length feature, aimed at a non-academic audience of history enthusiasts, suggests that looking at the techno scene in Berlin 1989 and its links with utopian and afrofuturist ideas from Detroit can help us see a different side of German reunification on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the opening of the Berlin Wall.
