Intra-Religious Dialogue and Silence in the Life of Raimon Panikkar

Research output: Contribution to journalArticle

This paper explores some of theological contributions of Raimon Panikkar to the understanding of religion, the multi-religious, and the ‘intra-religious’. Further, the paper outlines some of the contributions he made within the ‘intra-religious’ domain through the study of the Mantramanjari in Varanasi on the Ganges, India (Opera Omnia IV.1 1964-1976). Throughout his return to India and his sojourn there, as well as during his academic career, Panikkar wrote on Christianity, Hinduism, and Buddhism as he was exploring the possibilities of ‘the experience of Life’ within the different world religions. His multi-sensorial and encyclopedic-self flowed naturally into a diversity marked by the centrality of the third dimension of human Life, the mystical dimension, and a monastic experience at heart.
