Abstract

LiFeO2 (LFO) was investigated as an alternative anode material for the intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cell. At 650°C in Argon with 5% H2, LFO exhibited good electronic conductivity of 5.1 Scm-1. Fuel cell testing of composite anode of 40 wt% LFO and 60 wt% GDC and cathode with 40 wt% La0.6Sr0.4CoO3 and 60 wt% GDC on Ce0.9Gd0.1O1.95 electrolyte-supported cell showed excellent performance at 625°C. In humidified H2 at 625°C, the cell had an OCV of 0.89 V and an Rp of 0.28 ωcm2. It achieved a maximum power density of 136 Wcm-2.
