Abstract

This article addresses a gap in our knowledge concerning Royal Marriages in 17th century Stuart Britain. Rather than focussing on endeavours that did not happen (such as the infamous Spanish Match) this chapter considers marriages that did such as that between Elizabeth Stuart and Frederick V. It then discusses the implications of the weddings in a wider European context, particularly during the Thirty Years' War.
