Abstract

textcopyright 2014 Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers).I reflect on the methodological challenges of undertaking oral history research that attempts to address issues of security and violence that occurred in the past. When such issues become entangled with individual (and group) senses of identity and autobiography, there are challenges to do with nostalgia, forgetting and non-disclosure. I draw on current research into post-colonial identities in Tanzania.
